At about 4:00 a.m. on a recent Sunday morning, a man in a 2007 Hyundai, driving east on Northwest 54th, drove through a red light. The driver of the Hyundai hit another driver heading Northwest on 32nd Avenue. Tragically, both drivers involved in the auto accident died.
According to surveillance video that captured the accident, both men appeared to be driving at high speeds when the cars struck. The severity and violence of the impact is evidenced by the fact that the cars flew into a gas pump at a nearby gas station. Miami-Dade Police responding to the accident scene said that “it appears the Hyundai took the red light, causing the crash at the intersection and taking both of their lives.”
Investigators did not know if alcohol or drugs played a factor in the crash and will not know until the toxicology results come back, which could take several weeks.

With about 2.5 million residents, Miami-Dade County is the most populated county in Florida. Naturally, Miami-Dade is also one of the counties in Florida that has the most car crashes. For 2014, there have been more than 50,000 car crashes, with an average of nearly 5,000 car crashes per month.
Of the total crashes in in Miami-Dade County for 2014, more than 26,000 people have been injured and nearly 300 people have died. Already for 2014, there are more fatalities than for the entire year of 2013 when there were only 223 fatalities. Furthermore, there were a little more than 19,000 injuries in 2013, compared to more than 26,000 for 2014. Some of these accidents are unavoidable and may occur through no fault of any party. Many of the car crashes, however, happen because one of the drivers did not operate the car with proper care under the circumstances. From driving a vehicle under the influence of alcohol or drugs to talking on a cellphone, there are numerous reasons why someone may have failed to drive with proper care and attention. When this happens, the consequences for other drivers on the road can be tragic.
